This Wiki is a thematic unit that I have created in combination with the Read It Once Again curriculum, about The Napping House by Audrey Wood. I am a graduate student at the University of South Carolina pursuing my M.Ed. in Early Childhood Special Education. This unit is for preschool students with disabilities and will incorporate basic reading, writing, math, social and adaptation skills through the use of the The Napping House.

The purpose of this thematic unit is to use multiple varieties of instruction embedded within motivating formats integrated with house and bathroom routines. In my experience of working with children with developmental disabilities, some have difficulty with understanding adaptation skills related to using and going to the bathroom and the routine that is involved as well as understanding the different rooms of a house and their purposes. The students I work with have different abilities that range throughout all domains, meaning that some students are familiar with the bathroom routine and can follow it independently and others are still learning the process. Some students understand the rooms in a house and what to do in each room, while others cannot distinguish the differences. This unit is designed to provide all students learning opportunities to progress towards meeting their individual goals.
