1. Preplanning Objective- Given pictures of what to do in a bathroom (the routine steps), the student will recognize the sequence of the bathroom routine and what you do in a bathroom with 100% accuracy. Standards-
4K Good Start Grow Smart Standards:
ELA-4K-3.19 Make connections to prior knowledge, other texts, and the world in response to texts read aloud. AL-4K-4.1 Understand a task can be accomplished through several steps.
2. Set Up Anticipatory Set/Multiple Means of Engagement
Getting Attention- This lesson will be presented during Circle Time during afternoon group time. It will be presented in a whole group setting. “I need everyone to find their spots and give me five when you are ready.”
Expectations- Students will be reminded of the classroom rules “Listen and do, Sit in spot, feet on floor, and be quiet.”
3. Lesson Opening
“Today we are going to learn or review the bathroom routine. Yesterday we learned all about what goes in a bathroom and what you do in a bathroom can you anyone tell me what we do in a bathroom? That’s right we use the restroom or we wash our hands or we take a shower. We are going to sequence (put in order) the picture schedule of what to do in a bathroom and after circle we are going to practice acting out in the bathroom what to do.
4. Lesson Body Procedure/Multiple Means of Presentation- Model, Lead, Test
Part 1
The teacher will:
MODEL: I will pull up the Bathroom Routine pictures on the SMARTBoard and talk to students about each step. We will look at each picture and I will have students help me label each picture. I will model for students the first one. For example, “What is the boy doing in the picture?” He is pulling down his pants. I will then ask students what’s going on in each picture and have them take turns answering.
LEAD: Teacher guided problems/discoveries (guided practice)
Once finished labeling I will have students help me place the bathroom routine pictures in the order they belong with a sequencing activity on the SMARTBoard.
Part 2
MODEL: Now I am going to model for the students how to follow the bathroom routine by acting out each step through pretending. LEAD: We will then have each student practice the bathroom routine themselves prompting them if necessary with questions such as “What comes next?” After you wash hands, then what do you do?” etc. TEST: Now I will have each student cut and glue the bathroom routine pictures in the correct order on a sheet of paper. I will use this as my assessment.
5. Lesson Closing Remember that we learned the bathroom routine today and all the steps of using the potty. You all did such a great job acting out the routine! I hope you’ll remember the steps the next time you need to use the bathroom. 6. Evaluation/Multiple Means of Expression I will have a chart to record how many pictures the student glued correctly in sequential order.
