What's in a house? - An introductory lesson to begin the unit. We will read The Napping House and talk about what's in a house. Students will discriminate between what is in a house and what's outside of a house and label and sort pictures that belong inside and outside of house. They will do this through a SMARTBoard activity and then through having students find the picture and place it in the correct basket "Inside a house", "Outside a house".
Rooms in a House - A lesson that helps students learn and label the different rooms in a house and the functions of each of those rooms. The lesson utilizes a TrackStar where students will explore different websites with an adult to find various shapes within the rooms of a house.
Things in a bathroom (What/What do you do with questions) - A lesson that teaches students about the bathroom, a room in a house, where they will discriminate what goes in a bathroom and what you do with those things and in that room of the house. This lesson incorporates a Graphic Organizer that students will help fill in on the SMARTBoard.
The Bathroom Routine - A lesson that teaches students what to do in a bathroom and the routine. This lesson incorporates a SMARTBoard activity in which students will sequence the steps of the bathroom routine.
The Kitchen - A lesson that incorporates all aspects of a kitchen, what you do in a kitchen, what objects belong in a kitchen, and what you do with those objects (their function). Students will discriminate what belongs in a kitchen and what does not and be able to label and tell the function of each object. This lesson uses a SMARTBoard activity where students will be able to move around objects that belong in a kitchen to their corresponding numbers.
Bedroom or Living Room, Which One? - This lesson integrates the SMARTBoard as well as the use of Venn diagram to have students label and sort objects that belong in the living room and those that belong in the bedroom and those items that may be in each room. This will help students to learn the difference between the bedroom and the living room and which one is which.
Learning to Sequence - A lesson that introduces the concept of sequencing using The Napping House. The lesson incorporates a nonlinear PowerPoint that will be an evaluation of how well the students know the events in the story and the order that they occurred.
Sequencing With The Napping House - A lesson about the book where students will learn how to sequence characters or events in a book. The lesson incorporates a Word Processed Activity created with Microsoft Word in which students will sequence the characters from the story using the SMARTBoard.
Taste the Rainbow - At the end of The Napping House there is a rainbow. This lesson helps students learn/practice their colors through the use of Skittles. Students will count the amount of Skittles given to them and together we will fill in a table (with our information) and bar graph in Excel.
The Colorful Classroom - As a culminating activity in our unit of The Napping House, the students will help create a book based off of The Napping House about our classroom. We will use our concept of colors to integrate into our book created with BookBuilder.
