Bedroom or Living Room, Which One? 1. Preplanning Objective- Given a Venn diagram, the student will differentiate between a living room and a bedroom and the objects that belong with each (also noting items that belong in both, similar and items that are different) with 100% accuracy.

2. Set Up Anticipatory Set/Multiple Means of Engagement Getting Attention- This lesson will be presented during Circle Time during afternoon group time. It will be presented in a whole group setting. “I need everyone to find their spots and put your hands in your lap when you are ready.” Expectations- Students will be reminded of the classroom rules “Listen and do, Sit in spot, feet on floor, and be quiet.” 3. Lesson Opening
“Today we are going to learn about the bedroom and living room in a house, and the difference between the two. We are going to read The Napping House and look at some of the objects that belong inside a bedroom and then we are going to look at two pictures one of a living room and one of a bedroom then we are going to decide which one is which and why. We will talk about what things they might have that are the same and other things they have that are different and place them in a Venn diagram.
4. Lesson Body Procedure/Multiple Means of Presentation- Model, Lead, Test Part 1
The teacher will: MODEL: I will read The Napping House by Audrey Wood and as we go throughout the book I will have students point out things in the bedroom. I will model for them by saying, “What’s in the bedroom?” There’s a bed in the bedroom. LEAD: Teacher guided problems/discoveries (guided practice) I will have students answer questions about other objects or items in the bedroom. After we finish the book I will pull up a picture of a living room and have students name some of the objects in the living room. We will then talk about the similarities (things that are alike) and differences between the two rooms.
Part 2
MODEL: Now I am going to model for the students sorting things that belong in a bedroom and things that belong in a living room and placing them into the Venn Diagram. I will place one picture for each room and one that both rooms have. For example, a couch goes in a living room, a bed goes in a bedroom, a T.V. might be in both rooms. LEAD: We will then take turns sorting the objects. I will prompt students by asking each one of them to find me an object that either belongs in a living room, bedroom, or in both and placing it in the correct place. TEST: During Teacher Time (one on one work with teacher), I will have each student complete a Venn diagram with me with five pictures two that belong in a living room, two that belong in a bedroom, and one that belongs in both. I will test them on how many pictures they place and glue correctly.
5. Lesson Closing Remember that we learned what’s in a living room and what’s in a bedroom and the things that were the same and those that were different for each room. I want you to go home and with someone in your family find one object that is both in the living room and the bedroom. You all did such a wonderful job today!
6. Evaluation/Multiple Means of Expression I will have a chart to record how many pictures the student matched correctly.
