Getting Attention- This lesson will be presented during Circle Time during the afternoon group time. It will be presented in a whole group setting. “I need everyone to find their seats and place their hands on their head when you are ready.”
Expectations- Students will be reminded of the classroom rules “Listen and Do, Sit in chair, feet on floor, and be quiet”.
3. Lesson Opening
Today we are going to sequence the characters and events from The Napping House. We are going to read the story, then play a game on the SmartBoard to help us practice sequencing the characters from the story. What does sequence mean? Well sequence is a really big word for putting the characters or parts of a story in order from beginning to end. After we play the SmartBoard game we are going to sequence the characters by placing them on the bed in the order that they came in the book.

Procedure/Multiple Means of Presentation - Model, Lead, Test
The teacher will:
1. Model: As we read through the story I will ask students to anticipate or answer who or what comes next. I will begin by modeling this for them. For example, “There is a house, a napping house, where everyone is sleeping.” I will say, What/who do you think is in the house? And then model answer for them maybe if they are sleeping there is a bed in the house. Then I will read the next page, etc. I will do this for the first time reading through the story. I am going to model for the students with story cards the sequential order of the book. Example: Picture of house, bed, granny, child, etc.)
2. Lead: Teacher guided problems/discoveries (guided practice)
Once finished reading I will have students work as a group to sequence the story cards together and I will ask questions such as “Who comes next?” “Who is sleeping on top of the dog?” “Where does is the mouse?” etc. I will have students think back to the story and if they cannot remember then we will look back through the book to figure out who or what comes next.
3. Test: Now I have made an activity in Microsoft Word for you to do on the SmartBoard. I have drawn a picture of a house with a bed inside of it. Taking turns, I want each of you to sequence a character from the story. For example, the granny was the first person sleeping so would she go on the bed first or last? Have kids answer. -I will provide support or help any student who may need assistance. Once we have finished sequencing the characters I will leave the activity up and have students do the activity for me individually during their Teacher Time to assess whether they know the order of the characters in the story.
5. Lesson closing
Remember that we worked on sequencing the story today. Can anyone tell me what sequence means? That’s right it means to put people or parts of the story in order from beginning to end. You all did a great job today and I want you to go home with your Napping House book (each child receives a copy of the book we read that month to take home) and tell someone the story by looking through the pictures.
6. Evaluation/Multiple Means of Expression
I will have a chart to record how many characters students place in the correct order. Objectives will be evaluated based on the IEP goals for each of my students.
